Welcome to our web site.

We provide a caring environment and positive climate for learning, which develops good pupil attitudes to work, excellent standards and lifelong learners.

Welcome to John of Gaunt - we hope you enjoy finding out about our school

John of Gaunt First School opened in the Autumn of 1977 as a purpose built first school to take children up to the age of eight years within the Aylsham area.

In 2001 the school was re-organised and a nursery class was added and the school was re-named John of Gaunt Infant and Nursery School. The school now takes children up to the age of seven. It is a community school with approximately 140 children on roll.

Set as it is, close to the centre of Aylsham, and adjoining the grounds of Bure Valley School, the school enjoys the use of wide expanses of landscaped grass areas, including football pitches, a wildlife area and a dell with a story telling circle and seating at the front of the school. There is the "Millennium Garden", a quiet, reflective area where children can sit. A verandah has been built to enhance the provision for the outdoor curriculum, providing cover on rainy days and shade on sunny days. A lovely new library has been added to the school and the old library has been converted into a teaching resources room. Our front entrance has been modified to accommodate wheelchair access. All of the classrooms have Interactive Whiteboards and a mini-suite of computers.
