Your Commitment To Us

We hope that you will work in partnership with us to ensure that your child enjoys learning at Aylsham High School. Students only spend 15% of their waking time between birth and the age of 16 at school so the support and encouragement that you give during the remaining time is very important.

Many of the questions or concerns that parents have during the course of the year are about homework. For some there will be too much or it will seem too challenging and for others there will not be enough and not be seen to extend their learning. There are times when the homework set does not first appear to match the Homework Timetable, however there may be good reasons for this. We will always be happy to discuss this with you. We ask parents to support homework by:

·        Encouraging students to make sure that they take the time during the lesson to write down clearly in their Student Planner what the homework task is.

·        Encouraging students to talk about their school life and their friends and favourite subjects as well as their homework.

·        Helping your child to be organized and have the right equipment

·        Encourage them to attend homework or revision clubs.

·        Check their Student Planners at least every week.

·        Encourage them to further develop the research skills that they have acquired at Primary School.

As students move into Year 10 and begin GCSE work, the homework pattern may change and there will be coursework to complete. This should still be written in planners and reviewed with regular deadlines. Please contact us at any time if you need help to encourage your child to complete coursework on time. Ignoring deadlines and leaving everything until the last minute could have a significant effect of the final examination result.
