We provide an environment that is welcoming and supportive, to create a caring, working atmosphere that will enable students to reach to their full potential, intellectually, physically, spiritually and ethically. The strong partnership that we nurture between students, parents, staff, governors and the wider community is crucial to our success. We have very high expectations of all of our students, including their behaviour and aim to encourage a sense of responsibility, not only for themselves but towards everyone with whom they are in contact. Our students are happy, highly motivated and interesting. They care for each other and enjoy very positive relationships with fellow students and will adults in school. Our pastoral care is exceptional. In recognition of the huge impact that our Friendly Face scheme has had in school, our Friendly Face Co-ordinators were awarded a Philip Lawrence Award. We are extremely proud of their work. The school is organised on a House basis, which gives students the advantage of belonging to a small ‘school within a school’. The five houses are led by a Head Of House, working with a team of Form Tutors to ensure that each student is given the best possible pastoral care. Aylsham High has been a Training School for over eight years and in that time has continued to focus on very high quality teaching and learning. The responsibility for training teachers of the future is only given to schools demonstrating the finest quality in terms of excellent teaching practice. In September 2003 the school became the first in Norfolk to specialise in Business and Enterprise. We are enormously proud to have this recognition because we believe that students benefit greatly from finding out about the world of work and from acquiring some of the all important competencies that will be required of them in the future. We also believe that young people benefit from ambition, determination to succeed and from being confident and self assured. We are delighted to have been given the responsibility of being and Enterprise Hub School to guide and support all High Schools in Norfolk through the delivery of Enterprise. We are also very proud to have been selected as one of only 52 schools nationally to develop Young Chamber. In a rural area, having a specialism does not mean that a school only specialises in one area. We continue to offer the finest teaching throughout the curriculum. We have a long established reputation for excelling in The Arts and PE and Sport. We have some of the finest teachers in the County delivering English, Mathematics, Science, Modern Foreign Languages, Humanities, Technology, ICT and RE. We also have an excellent department supporting students who have special needs to ensure that they have every opportunity to engage in an exciting learning journey during their five years at the school. Teaching is supported by a committed team of Learning Support Assistants and Cover Assistants.
