The Friendly Faces Team Go to London

We were all excited when we found out that we were finalists in the Philip Lawrence Awards. We couldn’t wait to travel to London to collect our award and to meet the other teams. We travelled to London on 3rd December. That evening we had a rehearsal, went through the ceremony ready for the next day, and met the other teams.Collecting our award from Frances Lawrence, Jacqui Smith and Sir Trevor McDonald was both an honour and a privilege. After the ceremony the groups and guests were invited to view the projects. This gave us the chance to meet everybody in person, including Frances Lawrence who is an amazing person – an inspiration to us all. After the ceremony, we decided to celebrate by taking a flight on the London Eye. This was a thoroughly enjoyable and fitting way to end an amazing couple of days.It is saddening to know that we had collected the Philip Lawrence Award only because he had died. How humbling it is that such goodness can come from evil.  On behalf of all of the Friendly Faces Team at Aylsham High School, I would like to say how thankful we are to have been given the opportunity to participate in the Philip Lawrence Awards. I feel that it is an achievement that we will remember always. We hope that others will follow and continue to make a difference in their communities for many years to come.
