Student Training Crew
We formed as a result of some work we did in Opening Minds lessons. We had a questionnaire at the end of the school year and were asked whether we wanted to continue learning about learning.
As a result, the group of people now know as the Student Training Crew was created. We are part of the Training School at Aylsham High School and are proud to say that we are a “crew” who work to help the work of the teachers. As a team we examine learning to learn and take our ideas and share them with many diverse groups.
What we’ve done so far
The groups we have shared our ideas with include GTP trainees, PGCE trainees and Qualified Teachers.
We have created various presentations to share with teachers. The main focus of our work is how we learn and how lessons can be adjusted to help pupils to learn more effectively.
We are all keen on different areas of the curriculum but what we all have in creativity common. This can be difficult when we all have different ideas about how to do things but it is becoming easier as we learn to listen to each other and find common ground.
We have been closely involved in the creation of a policy for our school and very much look forward to more in depth work with the staff.
In March 2010 we are going to the University of the First Age National Conference to deliver presentations about what we do. This is a great opportunity to share our expertise and meet like- minded pupils from other schools across the country.
What impact has it had on people around
Teachers and Trainee teachers have all commented on our honesty and integrity. They seem appreciate our sometimes blunt approach and welcome constructive feedback when it is asked for.
