Important Information: First Aid Training for Students at Aylsham High School

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are pleased to inform you that your child will be participating in an important first aid training session at Aylsham High School. This session will cover essential life-saving skills, including how to administer CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and the proper use of defibrillators in emergency situations. The training will take place during school hours between Monday 27th January and Friday 14th February.

This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to gain hands-on experience in these crucial life skills, which we believe are invaluable. At Aylsham High School, we are committed to ensuring that all our students are well-prepared to handle emergencies confidently. As part of our curriculum, this training will be revisited annually, reinforcing their knowledge and abilities.

We understand that some students may have personal experiences involving the use of CPR or defibrillators. If your child has encountered such situations, we kindly ask you to inform us. This will allow us to provide the necessary support and ensure that your child feels comfortable and supported during the training.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any concerns or foresee any issues that might arise with your child’s participation in this first aid course. We are here to assist and ensure that every student benefits from this invaluable learning experience.

On behalf of the staff at Aylsham High School, we wish you a very happy new year. We look forward to your continued support in helping us provide a comprehensive and enriching educational experience for all our students.

Kind regards,

Dr Susie Poock

Head of PSHE

Activities Week

Activities week will take place on 14 July to 18 July 2025

Welcome to the activities for summer of 2025.  Activities week will take place this year during the last week of the summer term.  We aim to end the academic year with a fun and exciting range of events designed to enable your child to:

  • Spend an extended period of time on an activity of their choice
  • Undertake a residential experience if they wish
  • Try something completely different
  • Progress further with existing skills
  • Work with students from different year groups
  • Develop the skills needed to be enterprising and utilise key skills in new situations

All students are expected to take part in an activity

The school is unable to authorise absence during activities week, unless there are exceptional circumstances.

We expect cost to be an important factor; activities that have a price associated with them are unable to run unless we can cover the full cost through your contributions.  There is, as usual, a range of free and low cost activities to ensure that every child can take part during the week.

There will be a non-refundable deposit required by Friday 22 November 2024; this will be available to pay via ParentPay on Wednesday 13 November 2024.  The deadline for full non-refundable payment for all activities is Monday 31 March 2025.  Please make payments via ParentPay.  If you need assistance with ParentPay, please contact the finance department on ext. 153/107 or finance@aylshamhigh.norfolk.sch.uk.  If you would like to discuss payment options including instalments, please contact the activity leader once the activity has been confirmed.

If you have any questions please email twiseman@aylshamhigh.norfolk.sch.uk

Online Safety Monthly Newsletter

Parent Newsletter: Staying Safe on Roblox

Dear Parents/Carers,

As part of our ongoing commitment to online safety, we want to provide you with important information about Roblox, a popular online gaming platform used by many children. While Roblox can be a fun and creative environment, it’s important to understand its risks, particularly regarding the online chat feature.

What is Roblox?

Roblox is a global online platform where users can create, share, and play games. With millions of games and an active community, it’s a favourite amongst children for its interactive and creative opportunities.

Risks Associated with Roblox

1. Inappropriate Content

Although Roblox has filters to block inappropriate content, some unsuitable material can slip through. Game titles, in-game designs, or player interactions may not always be age-appropriate.

2. Online Chat Dangers

Roblox allows users to chat during gameplay. Risks include:
- Strangers attempting to contact children through private or public messages.
- Grooming behaviours, where individuals build trust to exploit children.
- Exposure to bullying, offensive language, or scams through chats.

3. Friend Requests from Unknown Users

Children may receive requests from strangers, increasing the risk of unwanted or unsafe interactions.

4. Scams and Robux Fraud

Players are often targeted with promises of free 'Robux' (in-game currency) in exchange for personal information or account details, leading to scams.

5. Addiction and Overspending

With the appeal of in-game purchases and continuous play, children might overspend or struggle to limit their screen time.

Tips to Keep Your Child Safe on Roblox

- Enable Parental Controls: Roblox allows you to adjust settings to restrict chat, block certain games, and limit who can contact your child. You can also set an account PIN to prevent unauthorised changes.

- Monitor and Discuss Usage: Regularly check your child’s friend list, messages, and activity on Roblox. Encourage open conversations about their online interactions and games.

- Set Age-Appropriate Settings: Roblox has a feature to restrict access to games suitable for your child’s age. Use the 'Privacy Settings' to ensure these restrictions are in place.

- Teach Your Child to Recognise Red Flags: Help them identify and report:
- Inappropriate messages or behaviour.
- Strangers asking for personal information or attempting to meet offline.
- Promises of free Robux or items in exchange for details.

- Limit Screen Time and Spending: Set boundaries on how much time and money your child can spend on Roblox to reduce risks of addiction or overspending.

- Use a Shared Account: For younger children, consider creating a family account that you can manage and monitor together.

- Encourage Reporting and Blocking: Teach your child how to block players and report inappropriate behaviour using Roblox’s in-game tools.
