Drama

“I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.”

- Oscar Wilde

Drama at Aylsham High School

Our Drama department works on developing three core areas: Curiosity, Creativity, and Challenge.

  • Curiosity — Enquire Deeply. Asking bold questions, exploring human behaviour, and diving deep into research and character.

  • Creativity — Express Boldly. Transforming imagination into action through playful experimentation and fearless artistic choice.

  • Challenge — Grow Continuously. Step outside your comfort zone, master dynamic craft, and build lifelong creative resilience.

 GCSE Drama

GCSE Drama is an opportunity for students to explore theatre at a greater level of depth than they have ever done before at Aylsham High School. Students will have the opportunity to create their own plays, perform exciting texts and study the wonderful 'An Inspector Calls' as well as have opportunities to see live theatre. In a world that is becoming more and more screen-centric, drama and theatre are even more important to the holistic and academic learning of our students.  Drama and theatre are about the human condition and, in our current context, it's even more important our young people are able to explore that fully and safely through this wonderful art form.

KS3 Drama at Aylsham High School

Drama at KS3 asks students to develop their skills in the foundations of theatre. They will do this through showing curiosity, creativity, and challenging themselves to be the best they can be. Students will study Roald Dahl's 'Revolting Rhymes' and look at the musical 'Matilda'. They will study Shakespeare, Commedia Dell'Arte and Contemporary scripts from the National Theatre Connections archives. I am so proud of the curriculum for years 7 and 8, and I know our students thoroughly enjoy it also.

Extra Curricular and Interhouse Competitions

We run a vibrant department with lots of opportunities for students to get involved both in performing but also backstage. We run a musical every other year and a straight play in our year off. It is imperative we offer the opportunity for all students to engage in the theatre they enjoy. Please take a look below at all of our exciting opportunities that are held in the Drama department!
